AISC April 2022 Meeting Recap
A Run-Down of the AISC April 2022 Meeting
With a focus on training package policies and projects, the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) met on 12 April 2022 for its 45th meeting. The committee also approved cases for endorsement and change to ensure that the courses’ quality stays up-to-date and suitable for industry needs.
Here’s a quick summary of the conference:
- The Aerospace Industry Reference Committee’s (IRC) new chair, Mr Russell Burgess, gave updates on the MEA Aeroskills Project – Stage 2 or the Alignment with Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) Regulations. The said project will ensure that the CASA regulations and aircraft maintenance qualifications are aligned.
- The IRC Operating Framework will go through revisions involving more conflict-of-interest clauses. The AISC also gave the nod to supporting materials that will help the IRC carry out the best practice in conflict-of-interest arrangements.
- The committee gave the green light to the Mandatory Workplace Requirements – On the Mark: 5 Good Practice Principles. It’s a practice guide that will provide clarity and uniformity to training product developers when they judge and create Mandatory Workplace Requirements (MWR) for training products.
- The members agreed on updating the case for change and endorsement templates. Aimed to be used for any training products starting August 2022, it will define requirements and evidence supporting MWR.
- The AISC accepted the proposed CPC Construction Plumbing and Services Training Package – Silica Safety units of competency. As instructed by the committee, more detailed instructions in the companion volume about health safety regulations will be added by the IRC and Skills Service Organisation (SSO).

Prepare for these Updates
While the new changes are not yet out, be one step ahead and plan for these changes. Preparing as soon as possible gives your RTO more time to redevelop your program, talk to industry experts, and discover more business opportunities.
Once the updates are in effect and your training resources have superseded, here’s what you can do:
- Apply for a scope of registration if the training package update is not considered equivalent to your current program.
- Edit or contextualise your current learning materials conforming to the new standards. Be one of the first to offer the latest updates and get suitable training resources from developers.
- Let your students finish the course before the transition period ends. But if they can’t finish it within the said time, transfer them to the updated program before the deadline.
TotalVET Training Resources is currently developing learning resources for some of these updates. Please call us on 1300 822 599 or email enquiries@totalvet.com.au if you have questions.
