Update on Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol – SITHFAB002 and SITHFAB021
The Commonwealth Department of Employment and Workplace Relations has recently made changes to the assessment requirements for the Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol SITHFAB002 and its scheduled replacement, SITHFAB021. These SIT training package updates in Australia come in response to stakeholder concerns and have been made via a minor release process, with immediate effect.
The changes involve the removal of specific references to the impact of excessive drinking on particular types of customers who are at heightened risk, specifically Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This information was previously included as part of the knowledge required to complete the tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of these units. The text that has been removed is shown in below table:
Unit of Competency | Removed Text |
SITHFAB002 – Provide responsible service of alcohol | Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders |
SITHFAB021 – Provide responsible service of alcohol | Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities |
What It Means for RTOs?
For Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) offering training and assessment for these units, this means that they must review their strategies and update their training resources across Australia to ensure that these references are removed. It is important to note that the removal of this content does not remove the obligation for alcohol service providers to take into account the specific needs and risks of different customer groups, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and communities. It is crucial for RTOs to update their training and assessment materials to comply with the updated requirements.
