SIS Fitness Training Package Updates: Changes You Shouldn’t Miss

SIS Fitness Training Package Updates: Changes You Shouldn’t Miss

The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) has announced an extended transition period for the SIS20115 Certificate II in Sport and Recreation of the SIS Fitness training package. The approved extended transition period for the SIS20115 qualification will now end on 31 December 2024.

According to the Guidance for Providers – Learner Transition, ASQA considers such requests for an extension only when there is a genuine disadvantage to a group of learners if the standard transition period is not sufficient.

ASQA has the authority to approve longer transition periods under certain circumstances, as outlined in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015. With this SIS training package update, learners will have more time to complete their training and assessments under the qualification. Notably, new enrolments will be accepted after 11 December 2023 (the initial transition end date), with the condition that all students must either finish their course or be transferred to the replacement qualification by the new transition end date.

In the decision-making process, ASQA collaborated with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) and the Training Accreditation Council Western Australia (TAC WA) to ensure a comprehensive evaluation.

It’s important to note that during the extended transition period, the SIS20115 Certificate II in Sport and Recreation will remain a part of registered training organisations’ scope of registration. This move aims to facilitate a smoother transition for learners and training providers alike.

The update provides a welcomed extension for students pursuing the SIS20115 qualification, offering them more time to complete their training and obtain the necessary certification within the revised timeline.

Adapting to the SIS Fitness Training Package Updates

With the recent updates and the new transition deadlines to the SIS fitness training package, Australian RTOs must take proactive steps to meet the evolving requirements.

Here are essential steps for RTOs to navigate the changes:

  • Review the Latest SIS Training Package

Review the latest SIS fitness training package update. Familiarise yourself with the changes so you can have a clear understanding of the necessary adjustments required in your training programs.

  • Update Your Scope of Registration (If Needed)

If the update introduces new qualifications or units not currently in your scope of registration, you may need to apply for an extension to include them. If the new update is equivalent to the superseded version, ASQA automatically updates your scope.

  • Inform Your Students

Keep your learners well-informed about the changes and how they may be affected. Provide clear guidance on any necessary transitions or available options during the extended period.

  • Prepare Your Transition Plan

Assist your students in successfully completing their ongoing courses within the extended transition period. In case some learners are unable to finish within the designated timeframe, facilitate a smooth transfer to the updated program. By doing so, you ensure that all students can continue their learning journey without disruption, maximising their chances of success.

Taking these steps is crucial for maintaining compliance and ensuring the best outcomes for your students. Additionally, it’s essential to purchase RTO materials that align with the updated SIS fitness training package to fully support these transitions. By staying ahead of the changes and equipping your RTO with the necessary resources, you can continue to deliver high-quality training that meets industry standards.
