31 October 2023 MEM Training Package Update
Acting in accordance with Guidance for Providers – Learner Transition, the Australian Skills Quality Authority approved a longer transition period for nine qualifications within the manufacturing and engineering (MEM) training package.
Qualifications with Extended Transition Period
- MEM20413 Certificate II in Engineering Pathways
- MEM30319 Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade
- MEM30405 Certificate III in Engineering – Electrical/Electronic Trade
- MEM30505 Certificate III in Engineering – Technical
- MEM40412 Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting
- MEM50212 Diploma of Engineering – Technical
- MEM50311 Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design
- MEM60112 Advanced Diploma of Engineering
- MEM60211 Advanced Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design
ASQA moved the transition period for MEM20413 from 17 December 2023 to 31 January 2024. On the other hand, the regulatory body extended the transition period of the other eight MEM training products from 17 December 2023 to 31 January 2025.
The extended transition period only applies to students who have commenced training and assessment in the affected qualifications on or before 17 December 2023.
Registered training organisations (RTOs) need to ensure all students must complete and receive their qualifications by the end of the transition end date.
Alternatively, students may opt to transfer to replacement qualification before the end of the new transition period.
ASQA decided to extend the transition period for 9 MEM training products after consulting with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) and the Training Accreditation Council of Western Australia (TAC WA).
ASQA also sought advice from the Manufacturing Industry Skills Alliance Jobs and Skills Council regarding the transition extensions.
