Latest TAE Training Package Update: Changes You Shouldn’t Miss

TAE Update

The TAE Training Package Version 5 was officially approved by the Australian Industry Skills Committee on November 8, 2022, and received endorsement from Skills Ministers on November 18, 2022. This TAE update includes the introduction of a new qualification, TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, which supersedes and is equivalent to the previous TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

The qualifications required for trainers and assessors outlined in Schedule 1 of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations remain the same. Currently, there is no mandatory requirement for current trainers and assessors to obtain the new TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Extended Transition Period for TAE Training Package Updates

In line with the Guidance for Providers – Learner Transitions, ASQA will only approve requests for an extended transition period when it can be shown that a group of learners would face a significant disadvantage without the extension.

ASQA has granted an extended transition period for all RTOs registered with ASQA for the following TAE qualifications:

  • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training
  • TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development

The TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training and the TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development are superseded and are not considered equivalent to the TAE50122 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training.

The extended period for training, assessment, and issuance of certification for these qualifications will end on December 9, 2024.

What RTOs Need to Do?

With the extended transition period for TAE updates, it is crucial for RTOs to update their scope and acquire the newest version of the training materials. To ensure that your students have access to the most current resources, RTOs should:

Include the updated version in your scope of registration

Monitor the transition deadline and ensure that all learners are transitioned to the new version within that time frame

Ensure that students enrolled in deleted products complete their studies within 1 year after the units and skill sets were removed, and 2 years for deleted qualifications

Apply to add new, non-equivalent qualifications and units of competency to your scope
