A Quick Look at the AISC June 2022 Meeting
The Australian Industry and Skills Committee recently held its 46th meeting on 1 June 2022 for an update on the following projects and changes to training packages.
Here’s a rundown of things you need to know:
- The newly elected government announced its commitment to the skills sector by establishing Jobs and Skills Australia and committing to support TAFE, New Energy Apprenticeships, and the New Energy Skills Program.
- Mr Larry Moore, the new Chair for Electrotechnology IRC, and Mr Paul Walsh, the new Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Industry Standard, provided an update on the Electrotechnology IRC’s progress on its training product development work. The project is expected to be completed and approved by the Committee by December 2022.
- The Committee maintained its decision to terminate projects by 2022 regarding the Training Product Development Program’s transition. The following criteria were also laid out to determine a project’s scope for termination:
- The validation draft is not available until September 2022
- The Case for Endorsement is not submitted to the Secretariat by 21 October 2022
- The deletion of the Certificate IV in School Aged Education and Care is delayed until 30 June 2022 to make time for the course’s replacement and ensure a smooth transition between training packages. Additionally, the Committee acknowledges the need for cooperation with states and territories to resolve the issue of subsidy eligibility and traineeship recognition.

What RTOs Should Do Next
With the termination of projects looming near, it’s necessary to identify whether any of your RTO’s projects are in scope for termination. Check for unfinished validation drafts and whether the endorsement cases have all been submitted to the Secretariat. Prioritising this aspect will help your RTO maintain the courses you have on scope and determine which courses may present new business opportunities.
Since the government elections have provided changes in the industry and updates on implementation are still underway, your best course of action is to look into the early market and workforce trends to get a head start in releasing new training packages.
